Sesriem Camping Sossusvlei

The campsites at Sesriem provide the opportunity to camp at the edge of the desert and sit in the shade of a camel thorn tree while watching the breathtaking sunset over the dunes.

Only 4 kilometres from Sesriem Canyon, 45 kilometres from Dune 45 and 60 kilometres from Sossusvlei and Dead Vlei, you have the advantage of being inside the Namib-Naukluft National Park and getting to these sites before sunrise.

LARGE AND SHADED CAMPSITES

The campsites are comfortably large and set far apart to offer some privacy while enjoying the sunset or the view on Dune Elim from your campsite.

Camel thorn trees supply much-needed shade to most of the campsites. Be sure to arrive early to set up camp underneath these friendly giants.

DEMARCATED PIECE OF SAND

Some of the sites are surrounded by a stone circle to demarcate your temporary domain. For bigger groups, there are sites without walls which are large and spacious.

Being at the edge of the Namib Desert, the sites are covered in thick sand, which makes it easy to set up camp. Be sure to wear shoes or slops at all times, for the sun heats up the sand to a scorching temperature during the day and a variety of scorpions are active at night.

SWIMMING POOL

The sparkling pool at the campsite is the ideal place to cool off after a hot day in the dunes. There are also some shaded spots and pool loungers for relaxing at the poolside during the hot hours.

Even though Namibia doesn't get cold in the European sense of the word, the water in the swimming pool does get colder during the winter months. The midday temperatures might still be high, but the mornings and evenings can be nicely chilli and ideal for spending time next to the campfire.

RESTAURANT AND BAR

Even if the menu is limited due to the remoteness of the camp, the chefs at Sesriem Camp go to a lot a trouble and manage to produce very tasty meals.

The bar is an enjoyable place where sport matches can be watched on the big screen TV and where the everlasting thirst of dune-runners can be quenched.

SHOP AND FILLING STATION

The shop at Sesriem Camp keeps stock of the most crucial needs of any traveller to Namibia - meat, cold drinks, firewood and firelighters. You might even be lucky to be able to stock up on some basic groceries as well, but don't plan to replenish all your supplies for a longer tour at this facility.

Fuel is available at the filling station and basic repairs can be done to punctured tyres, but Sesriem doesn't have the facilities to replace completely damaged tyres.
